Where are the girders?

I thought there would be girders. I thought that first we’d see big, steel (seriously comforting) girders hoisted by that enormous crane, and then, after that, we’d see the walls being built.

I don’t know why I thought I knew the first thing about how Coker’s new Deloach Center would be built. The last time I personally built a building, I was about 25 years old, and the construction process I employed looked remarkably similar to what the good folks from Choate Construction seem to be doing. Only the largest machine I used was my hand beaters, and the walls were made of gingerbread, held to account with buttercream frosting and Wilton cookie sticks.


This morning’s offering: sugar cookies and chocolate cake, construction-style.

So, today, in honor of well built buildings designed to care for the needs of our most promising loved ones, I’m serving a replica in-progress Deloach Center chocolate cake and old-fashioned building-wall sugar cookies.

Come and get ’em!

P.S.  If anyone wants to take a walk with me at lunchtime to see today’s construction progress, I’ll bring whatever cookies haven’t yet been eaten.  Maybe you’ll be able to help me figure out what part of the building will be revealed next.  Oh, and if you (or a child you love) would like to have the CAT Mini Machines on display, let me know.  The little boy I made that previous cake for is now 27.  Yikes!

  1. The cookies were good. Did you add orange extract? They reminded me of my Great Aunt Maimie’s tea cakes.
