Double Chocolate Chip

1 1/2 cup butter

2 cups sugar

2 eggs

2 tsp. vanilla

2 cups flour

3/4 cup cocoa

1 heaping tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp. salt

3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup sugar

Preheat oven to 350°.  Thoroughly cream butter, shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Mix cocoa, soda, salt and flour in a separate bowl. Add dry ingredients to creamed ingredients and stir only until mixture is consistent. Add chocolate chips.  Form dough into 1-inch balls, roll in white sugar, and bake 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet for 8-10 minutes.  Remove from pan immediately and cool on a wire rack until completely cool.  Drizzle with dark chocolate if desired.

Makes approximately 5 dozen cookies.
